haggi_page.JPG

Haggis was in the back room of a pet store labeled as a border collie puppy. When the store refused to change the label to a corgi-cross we were worried she was set up to fail and she was bought back to the sanctuary. It was discovered then that Haggis had Spondylosis, a term referring to degenerative spinal osteoarthritis. This means that she is often in a lot of pain. Haggis is a very friendly, active dog and doesn't let her condition slow her down.

mona_page.JPG

Mona was brought to New Zealand from Indonesia where she spent most of her life in a tiny concrete cell as a feral dog. She is very happy at the sanctuary but is still a bit emotionally unstable. Mona learnt to trust our team very quickly and likes to be around people.

ned_page.JPG

Ned was born with one lame front leg. He was dumped on someone’s doorstep and bought to HUHA to be cared for. Due to one front leg not being used he has developed arthritis in the one he does use, however this does not slow him down! Quite the contrary, Ned is a very active and lively dog. Ned has found his place here and has a very strong personality.

norm_page.JPG

Norm is the biggest softy you will ever meet. He adores attention and loves being around people and the other animals. Norm is an animal who is central for us to teach children empathy as dogs like him are generally trained and used as vicious fighting dogs.

tucker_page.JPG

Carolyn and Jim got Tucker from a farmer. Farm dogs are treated like a tool rather than a pet. By bringing him to the sanctuary he has avoided the hard life that many kiwi farm dogs have. Tucker is a gorgeous dog with a truckload of personality. He loves running around with the other dogs and animals.
