Rehoming Animals
OK this is a HUGE responsibility, a decision that will impact the rest of your pets life.
Here are a few simple rules when rehoming your pet.
– Set the animal up to succeed – Always be honest as to why your pet needs a new home – if a new Guardian is prepared, then your pet is less likely to be returned
– Think very carefully about what your pet truly needs – never compromise, your owe it to your pet to find them the most suitable home possible.
– Get the word out that your pet needs a new Guardian.
– tell family and friends. Family and friends may already know and admire you pet.
– make up flyers to put on vet clinic notice boards. Vets often have clients who may have sadly lost a pet and maybe ready for another.
– Don’t be afraid to advertise on the internet or in newspapers. A lot of good people look for new pets on the internet, it’s up to you to screen them properly.
– Always visit new potential homes, be fusy, although remember an interactive Guardian is more impotrant than a large back yard – no pet should ever be left 24/7 in a back yard, chained or caged.
– Check how much time the potential new Guardian realisticaly can spend with your pet. It is not ideal if you are told your pet is intended for the children – what happens if they lose interest. An adult must take the ultimate responsibility of your pets life with enthusiasm.
– Always get the new Guardian to sign a contract.
